Fortwilliam Fishery

Fortwilliam is located 2 miles from the heritage town of Lismore in the beautiful Blackwater Valley. The reknowned Fortwilliam Fishery offers 3.5miles of double bank Salmon and Trout Fishing on the Munster River Blackwater and includes the infamous Lismore Castle Beat and Fortwilliam Beats known as The Ellis, Golf Course, The Glenmore and Bishops Beats. The Fishery enjoys the private and tranquil surroundings of Fortwilliam Estate this provides a beautiful environment for the enjoyment of those wishing to fish. Fortwilliam also offers 3 charming holiday cottages where guests have access to the walled garden and woodland areas along with the riverbank to enjoy during their stay.

Single rod bookings are welcome, and Beats are usually booked on a 3 rod basis. We do not like to over crowd our Beats. If a large group wishes to fish, they can be accommodated. Beats are rotated on a daily basis. Fortwilliam is pleased to provide the opportunity for under 16 year olds to fish for free when accompanied. This has proved to be a popular introduction to many young people during the 2013 season.

In 2003 a large river enhancement was carried out and the work included the construction of croys, deflectors, rock armouring, the placing of rocks as “salmon lies”, improved fishable access and the deepening of certain stretches. Fortwilliam has a policy of ongoing improvements and high standards of maintenance. A casting pond with trout is available to allow visitors to practice their casting.
