The Camino has a strong historic resonance in Waterford dating back to the 5th Century when St. Declan travelled from his Holy Well in Ardmore to Cashel, Co. Tipperary. In the 1400s, Waterford Mayor James Rice led pilgrims from Ireland to the renowned Camino de Santiago in Northern Spain. Waterford Camino Tours is building on this proud heritage and is creating an opening for visitors from near and far to walk in the footsteps of our ancestors through Ireland’s Ancient East. Follow our story through the Waterford Greenway, Comeragh Mountains and the stunning Copper Coast.
Waterford Camino Tours have a number of packages to suit all group sizes and needs. Their spiritual packages have the 4star Athenaeum House Hotel in Ferrybank as their base and includes bike hire on the Greenway, bus transfers, guided walks with reflective ‘compass points’ to steer visitors on their journey each day. The sports packages will have the Viking Hotel as a base with the Greenway and W.I.T. Sports Arena as the ideal setting for motivational sports clinics and team building programmes. We are also offering Family Camino Packages from June 2017 with Dooley’s Hotel on the quay in Waterford as our base.
Waterford Camino Tours feel the arrival of the Greenway opens up the stunning vistas and seascapes on our doorstep in Waterford like never before and presents an unprecedented opportunity for the city and county to carve out a unique space in the Irish tourism landscape. Waterford Camino Tours also invites visitors to experience the aesthetic delights of Tramore Beach, Newtown Cove, The Lafcadio Hearn Japanese Gardens and in Dunmore East enjoy the stunning cliff walks included in their range of packages.
